Certified Medication Aide Class Information

What is a Medication Aide?
A Medication Aide is trained to work under the direct supervision of a caretaker or licensed health care professional. They provide routine medication by oral, inhalation, topical and instillation routes when appropriate direction and monitoring is provided.

  • To work as a MA-C in a nursing home, you must have a current STNA license issued through the state of Ohio.
  • To work as a MA-C in a residential care facility, you must have a current STNA license in the state of Ohio or have at least one year direct care experience in a long term care facility.

D & S Training Center is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing to provide medication aide training classes for Findlay and the surrounding area. We offer classroom training and lecture hours as well as hands-on clinical hours. Our criterion meets or exceeds the Ohio Board of Nursing’s standards and guidelines.

Objectives and Goals:
Upon completion of the Medication Aide Training the medication aide will be able to safely demonstrate competency in administering medications to patients/residents within their scope of practice. The MA-C will be able to verbalize medications, their function in the body, proper use, storage and disposal. The MA-C will demonstrate infection control precautions, proper body mechanics, and respect the residents rights. The MA-C will understand and verbalize nursing delegation and report incidents, concerns or errors immediately to the supervising nurse.

Registration Requirements:
To register for class, you must meet the requirements as set by the Ohio Board of Nursing:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Copy of drivers license
  • Have the results of a negative TB test within the last 30 days.
  • Be a current STNA or have at least one year care experience in a long term care facility.

**Please note: your online application for medication aide classes will not be considered complete until the following items are submitted to our office:

  • Proof of current STNA license or one year care experience in a long term care facility
  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Copy of drivers license
  • Results from a negative TB test no older than 30 days
  • Full payment for class

All class and clinical attendance time is MANDATORY. If there is an emergency, you must talk with your instructor about making up the time, and call D & S Training Center immediately if you are going to be absent. You will incur a fee of $25 per hour to make up the missed time with your instructor.

Registration and Fees:
To register for the class, you must complete the enrollment application and submit payment and all other required documents to our office. Sign up online by mail, fax or in person.


Fees for the class can be paid by cash, check, money order and Visa or MasterCard. Any returned checks will be charged a $35 NSF fee. All Fees MUST be paid in full prior to the start of class. Financial aid may be available through your local Job and county, state and government offices for those who qualify. Please contact your local office for more information.

The class fee does NOT cover the state test fee. You will receive an application for testing in class on the last day. Your payment must accompany this application. **Personal checks will not be accepted for the state testing fee.

Classes are held monthly at D & S Training Center. Class times may vary monthly.

Recommended supplies include PDR/Nursing drug book, medical dictionary, notebook and pens/pencils.

Min number of 5 students must be met to hold class. If the training class you are signed up for does not meet the min number required you will be placed into the other training class.
